Outlaw 7220 Seven Channel Power Amp

Forgive me for tooting the company horn a bit, but Outlaw has just released their model 7220 power amplifier which outputs 7 X 220 watts into 8 ohms. It uses a 20 Amp 120 VAC power input, and it is recommended that a real 20 Amp outlet be used in order to get all of the power out of the amp.

This amp is made by ATI, and I designed the microprocessor power management / fan cooling system. The fans are so quiet that you can only really hear them with your ear right next to them. A lot of thought, testing and re-writing of code was involved in striking just the right balance of fan speed / audibility and getting the thermal tracking curve optimized. They're run at the slowest practical speed so their sound level is lowest.

Cool, I remember visiting Morris in the ATI/old SAE building over 20 years ago and him showing me some designs, that included Outlaw audio stuff. He was particularly happy with an optically isolated output circuit. He had one of his very first designs he did as a kid sitting on a table in the lobby and a Ferrari in the warehouse. I shipped home a pallet of NOS SAE gear. Good times.

So, how does one manage to get an amp like this with exactly 6 channels instead of 7, assuming a 6 channel version costs less and doesn't require a 20 amp circuit to reach full potential output?

I realize it is not comparing apples to apples but my Outlaw 7700 amp is still chugging along nicely after a number of years (dan't remeber when I bought it, mabe 10 years ago?)

There is no 6 Channel version available at this time. Even with a 6-channel version you will still need 20 amp circuit, especially at 4 Ohms. Just do the math, and you can figure what is required. Class A/B amps are about 60% efficient.
