Panasonic exits the Plasma TV market

Are LCDs just that much easier (cheaper?) to make as far as profits go or is it because of some of the stigmas associated with plasmas like image retention? I hear that a lot whenever someone asks me about "a good TV to buy" and I reply back with plasma. If it is the latter, then how come dead pixels and refresh rates haven't stuck to LCDs? Black levels anyone?

I plan to continue using my much loved Samsung LED Light Engine DLP set from 2007 for the foreseeable future. It is only six years old, has fantastic picture quality and is likely to run another decade without significant picture quality degradation. The way I see it, I've got all the time in the world to wait for OLED.
