PC Key pad for Online Games ?

Barney

Longhorns, Cowboys, Spurs, & Rangers...love Texas
My son plays alot of games on our PC. The issue is after awhile the "A W S D & R " buttons are used alot & now the D key sticks & the A is starting to stick............ you hold down the A W S D for an extended time. Is there a key pad that has better "return rubbers" under the keys ? The key pad is clean & I put some WD40 on the keys but the rubber return pads are real weak on these keys.
Any ideas ? Thanks

I would just get a new cheap keyboard... Yeah there are dedicated keypads for gamers, but they're more for special function keys and such, not the regular letter keys. And they're pricey.

Get a joystick Barn! If he is playing games that much you should have done that long ago.

I highly disagree!

As it is with most things, you get what you pay for. If he buys a cheap keyboard, it'll wear out sooner, the letters on the keys will be silkscreened instead of etched or laser cut and they'll wear off. He'll end up going through multiple keyboards over a period of time and, in the end, will have spent just as much if not more on 4 cheap keyboards than 1 good one.

You're right - as is Towen - gamer keyboards are not cheap. But why? Because they're overbuilt, designed to withstand gamer abuse and they last. I still have a perfect Saitek keyboard that I bought in 2004. It survived 5 years on constant Counter-Strike torture, including me throwing a tantrum when I'd die and smashing my fists on it. See if a $39 keyboard will do that.

Deacon ...my son says you can't aim worth a crap with a joy stick. He also has a wired XBOX360 controller for the computer but it has the same issue with PC games.....can't aim/shot worth a crap.
Computer key boards are far better....just that at times you hold down keys for extended times etc....& if gaming....we do press down hard & hold it down hard.....

Zing, the more I'm looking around....I think your right. Those Razorzone....blackwidows...mechanical keyboards read interesting that Towen gave a link to. My son is only 12 going on 13 & he doesn't have much money (neither do I). I don't want to go over $100 right now.

Does anything else matter besides price? Does it need to be wireless? A certain color? Backlit keys? Anything else?

In the meantime, if I were in the market for a gaming keyboard today, the Corsair Vengeance K90 would be at the top of my list. It's over your budget by $5 at Amazon. However, the K60 is no slouch and that's under budget by $10, also at Amazon. I agree that the Razer Blackwidow would also serve you very well. And for whatever reason, a lot of people seem to sing praises for the Logitech G510 (I'm just not a fan of Logitech keyboards).

Zing, we've never been around any of these mechanical keypads, so not sure about the use of micro keys etc. Don't want wireless, would love backlighting. Color...just so its NOT pink....

I suggest you look into the Corsair boards (either one) I mentioned in the above thread. I believe the K90 is the one with the backlit keys.

Thanks Zing...........while looking at those keyboards.......my son really smiled when he read about the M60 mouse....I told him to save his money.

Do have a question about those keyboards.........some keys are mechanical & most are not. Is there an issue with that ? Meaning....while playing Steam games etc...you do have to type messages etc. Any issues with that ?

None whatsoever. I wouldn't give it another thought.

However, if you'd like to read something more on the subject, this may help.

Very good link my friend. Understanding better now. Will use that link alot now (until I remember all the different switches used).

Zing, I've been looking around (reading about the types of switches/boards/etc.)
It seems that Corsair is still having issues with keys fadding (K60) & sticking (K60 & K90). Corsair has been working on the firmware for the sticking keys but as of yet...no idea when. One guy has got 4 replacements & still fadding (K60)
Here's Corsair's forum:

I sure was thinking about the K60........kinda scared now....

Well we went ahead & orderd a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate Mechanical Gaming Keyboard from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Razer-BlackWi...343059998&sr=8-8&keywords=mechanical+keyboard
My son's gaming is for the most part is on the PC. He uses Steam & they are always up-to-date etc. Games are cheaper alot of the times vs a disc from Gamestop/Walmart etc for our XBOX360. Also to use a keyboard vs a controler is alot better & the mouse used for gaming is night & day difference as well (that will be next).
By the way on Steam right now....we got Left for Dead & Left for Dead 2 (bundle) for under $15.....
Should have the BlackWidow by Thursday.........

Awesome, Barn! I'm sure you and your son will be quite happy with it for years.
