With a msrp of a mere $600 I predict this will be a big seller for Pioneer.
Sounds like a pretty nice mainstream receiver.

.....New features in select models include streaming of 192kHz/24-Bit FLAC and 192kHz/24-Bit WAV music files through front-panel USB ports and via a home network. "We wish to dispel the myth that music files have to be compressed low-bit-rate, low-depth MP3," a spokesman said.......

I like that. We need more thinking like that in our hobby.

I'll be in the market someday for a new AVR. I was just wondering though. I never had any good luck with Pioneer equipment (never had any of their video displays though).
It has been over a decade since my last Pioneer (DVD player) crapped out. Is Pioneer AVR's worth checking out ?
Just wondering....

I thought you might chime in....now I remember you use Pioneer.

I had a Pioneer VSX receiver back around 1990 (?), worked the hell out of it, and sold it ten years later ..... going strong and working perfectly.

I also still have, and use, an old Pioneer PDR 609 cd player/recorder that works just fine.

So my experience with Pioneer, although limited, has bee a good one.

Barn,

My Elite RPTV lasted over 14 years. I only parted with it because I was wanting HD and a bigger screen. I bought one of their first DVD players (DV-525?). It still plays flawlessly. It was one of the first players to be able to read CDRs. I've had two laserdisc players. A DVD/CD writer for my old PC (all still running). They make great stuff imo.

Yeah Barn, my experience with Pioneer has been more accidental. I bought my AVR because it was on sale and had the features I needed. I ended up loving it. It has been the workhorse in my corral for going on 10 years now and works perfectly. I've since added the DV 79avi which is a great top of the line universal player, nothing like the "578" of yesterday, that we all used over at S&V. Then I added an PL 41 and later a PL 55x Turntable from the 70's I think, that is built like a tank and sounds fantastic with my old vinyl.

So, my experience with Pioneer has been great and I highly recommend them. Now, like other AVR manufacturers, there are different "lines" of gear, if you stick to the top or near the top, you will not be disappointed.

Keep us posted,

Dennie

I've got a 2011 Pioneer in the living room. I don't do any critical listening (not my thing) but it handles what I ask it to do with zero problems. I have only HDMI sources connected; BD player, Xbox, Roku, and U-verse.

Ive never liked Pioneer's interface but this one is a LOT easier to use than previous generations. It was easy to setup all the inputs and listening modes. Since that room is way less than ideal acoustically, and since I don't do a lot of music in there anyway, I just ran the MCACC routine with the included mic. It's more than good enough for me.

My pannys still in the living room and still love it compared to the one upstairs. I wish I need it in my upcoming place, but yeah I love how it sounds with my klipsch.

Maybe one commonality with pioneers driving horns?

I have 2, an Elite and a standard, other than different colors the Elite doesn't really offer much (the one I have) Some of the more expensive models have features unavailable in the standard line. I find them to be extremely feature packed for the money, but if I needed robust amps I would not buy one. Amps are definitely the Pioneers shortcoming.

In both cases I chose the Pioneers I have due to the outstanding buys I got on each one. Because I'm in an apartment the low powered amps are of no concern.

I am a very big fan of Pioneer's VSX line - based on the VSX-1019AH (circa 2009) that I bought new just over two years ago for the family room HT. I'm an even bigger fan of Pioneer's auto set-up / room EQ (MCACC) in that receiver - which in my experience way outperforms the Audyssey in my Onkyo 886.

The then top-of-the-line 1019 was a great bargain, feature-laden, and highly reviewed, when I bought it. I imagine that it's current top-of-the-line VSX is equally or more so.

Sellout.woot has the Elite VSX-40 for $279. It probably is on par feature wise to the VSX-821 or 921. One thing I forgot is Elite branded stuff has a 2 year warranty.
