road race...

Just saw this and wow, I thought the biker was really pushing his skills...top speed was 280 km/h (~174 mph, I believe).

This was friggin' awesome! My heart's still pumpin' a few beats faster. :happy-smileygiantred:

Wow! Zing was next to me when I viewed this! Although I am sure he will disagree...whatever, I don't mind going fast in a vehicle, but a road race of this nature just wouldn't be cool to me. :scared-eek:

It was, however, cool to see someone else reach such speed!

Wow. Reckless to do that on a highway, but impressive speeds.

Even as a car guy (and not a motorcyclist), I'm under no illusions that in most circumstances a high performance motorcycle will smoke even an exotic car. Power to weight ratios tend to matter.

Obviously None of them are real bright, but the guy in the Audi deserved an ass whoopin.

Just my humble opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly. My thoughts were, the guys on the bikes will be skid marks. The guy in the Audi could do some serious damage!!

Do they have highways like Germany down in Brazil?
Curious.

Why the comparison to Germany?

Most countries have multiple lane highway systems.

This one (leading into Sao Paulo) is not atypical of any well-designed and maintained highway you could find anywhere.

But the drivers are definitely "North American" in style: plug the left lane; no stratification (ie. 10-20 km/hr difference in lane speeds, fast to slow); no yielding; no signaling; etc.

In Germany you would not typically see passing on the right. There would be no need. The left lane on autobahns usually stays clear. You pass, you move in. You signal both times. You check first before moving left to make sure nobody faster than you is approaching (and there always is - at huge speed!) Yes there are idiots - and deadly accidents as a result - but what was on that video looked nothing like driving on a German autobahn.

And at 280 km/hr that R8 would be getting passed by something going even faster - guaranteed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_autobahns
"German autobahns have no Federally-mandated blanket speed limit"
And...

But Brazil does and nothing in the posted video would indicate that it did not. The R8 driver was clearly not "normal" by Brazilian standards - darting and weaving about while everyone else is obviously driving at some speed limit.

Which is why I wondered why you compared a Brazilian highway to a German autobahn.

But I guess I missed something.
