As a James Bond fan gonna go see this one in a few hours. Heard it maybe the best Bond yet (for me it was Goldfinger followed by Casino Royal with Daniel Craig). Let you guys know how it was when I get back tonight.....gonna try and see Argo also (two movies my GF doesn't care to see but since she's at work a perfect time).

Anyone else a Bond fan (Books or Movies)?

I am going to try and catch it next week.

And also "Lincoln" which starts today also.

friends i met with last night went to the premier showing. apparently premier showings here in the bay mean you, as an individual who isnt media or reviewing the movie get to sit right up front. around 5 rows of it.

it was a bad viewing angle, but they got a quartet doing the intro apparently in front of them. pretty cool.

the movie tho, was pretty much his best work apparently. daniel craig was definitely in his element in this one.

mustve learned from harrison ford in cowboys and aliens.

I think a lot has to do with the director Sam Mendes. I heard a very good interview with him this morning relating how he approached the product and working closely with Craig to get an excellent performance.

Bond Fan Here........

Man With The Golden Gun was my first ever seen in the Movie Theater.

Looking forward to Skyfall!

Excellent! Not much chance I'll get to this in the theaters, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Huge Bond fan.
Daniel Craig is the dreamiest Bond yet!!

Well saw Skyfall and Argo and although I loved Skyfall I loved Argo even better. The story of Skyfall was in depth and although slow at times it kept my attention. Was really really surprised at cast changes but felt with Bond change is good (at times). Loved the "exchange" of cars. The main Bond girl in Shanghai DAYUM!!!!! What a hottie. I can't talk much as there would be too many spoilers. I still liked Casino Royal better but this one is in my top five.

Thought Craig is looking old in this one with all the gray in his beard. As usual the beginning of the movie (as with all Bond films) was action packed and spectacular. I read the Kincade character was written for Sean Connery to play but Sam Mendes felt it would distract and take away from Craig hence why they didn't have Connery in the film but felt Connery would've enhanced the film.

Definitely worthy of the ticket but still loved Argo better.

Picked up Skyfall yesterday and watched it last night for the first time......wasn't really thrilled by it, it was good, will need to watch it again.

Today double dipped and picked up Casino Royale and Quatum of Solace on BR. $7.99 EACH @ BB.

Finally got a chance to see this myself yesterday, and while I thought it was a really good movie, I never felt like I was watching a James Bond movie. I was always felt that the Bond movies never took themselves too seriously, and always had a bit more humor about them. This one was a little too serious for my tastes as a Bond movie. No gadgets, which was a little disappointing as well.

They changed that with this new series. From what I've seen, people felt that it got to be little too much by the last of Pierce Brosnan series. The change was meant for the good of the series. I think the reactions have been relatively positive so far.

Huey I'm on the fence, and I hear you. But I lean more towards the direction they're going with the rebooted franchise. Since Casino Royale, the stories are much closer and tighter chronologically and they are still setting things up, hence why there's no Moneypenny, etc in the series until the end of Skyfall. I believe they'll bring on more gadgetry as well, but that better represent the tech age we live in today. However I think they'll aim for pseudo-realistic gadgets that push the envelope of what really exists or is on the horizon in the real world.

As far as how serious they are or anyone thinks they are, I personally think they're also doing a fine job in that regard. While I appreciate some comic relief, the more tongue-in-cheek or campy they go, I feel that, for me, it lessens the replay value. I'll take a good story, screenplay, acting, etc that results in a good classic movie that I want to see again and again, over a series of movies that play out like the Moore or Brosnan run of Bond films. Not that I don't like them, I just prefer this interpretation, because if the filmmaker takes the work serious, I can invest in them more also. Not every serious movie turns out to be a good finished product by default, but I think the 3 Daniel Craig movies are phenomenal. While I'm not a Bond aficionado, I've always enjoyed the series from a distance, but this fresh new direction, has me more interested in the character than ever before. And I WANT to see where they'll go next.

I hear you guys, and I like the new movies as well, with Casino Royale being my favorite. Bond movies always had this certain feel to them for me, and now it seems like it could be a movie about any MI6 agent, or any secret agent for that part. It will be interesting to see where they go with them though.

^ that's so interesting. I feel like their delving into the characters psyche more than ever before.

And while that could be interesting, for me at least, Bond movies were always something to check your mind at the door and just enjoy them. While watching Skyfall yesterday, all I could think about, was that I was watching a psychological thriller. A good one at that though.

I'm a big Bond fan.

I've found that each actor ends up portraying Bond a little differently, leading to different scripts. The following isn't chronological order, but it is from most goofy to most serious.

Moore was by far and away the goofiest Bond; some of his films you wonder if they were almost comedies the way he acted and the way they were written. That's not saying they're bad, it's just a much more lighthearted feel.

Connery had some humor to him, but he was less a goof than he was a Bond who enjoyed his job. There were lighthearted moments, but he was still a trained killer out to get the job done by any means necessary. If that meant he got to bag a hot woman, then he liked it even more.

I see Brosnan's Bond as something in the same vein as Connery's- serious, but able to give a chuckle at the right moment. A killer, but not one who is a head case.

Dalton's Bond was, IMO, the first one who had real psychological issues. While he only did two films, his Bond is one who just seems to skate much closer to the edge than those before him. He'd kill, but the events take a much heavier toll on him than on the other Bonds. He could still find light moments, but they were definitely fewer and farther between.

Craig's Bond doesn't have time or energy for fun. He's a trained killer and it shows- he isn't a psychopath, so it wears on him. He's a damaged Bond; you see him take it in ways the others didn't. The toll of being a secret agent, both physically and mentally, is exacted from him as he does the job.

As the gadgets were generally the lighter hearted moments, of course they don't figure in that much into Craig's Bond... he isn't a man who finds much to be lighthearted about.

I should add I don't have a great feel for where I'd put Lazenby; with only one movie (and that one rarely seen) it's just harder to nail his Bond down; I might put him between Moore and Connery, but I'm not even sure about that.

That's a pretty good summation Akula, and I would tend to agree with most of what you wrote. I can't think of a James Bond film I didn't like, but they are all have a very different feel, depending on who played the character.

Craig just looks to me better playing the villain KGB agent than Bond. He even looks a little like Vlad Putin. CR was pretty good I didnt get into Skyfall at all. The only attempt I seen of some humor was when Craig ordered the Martini and watched intently how the bartender mixed it. When he shook it you see the relief on his face and says something like that's the way you do it or something like that. All in all Craig would make a better Jack Reacher while Tom Cruise would make a better Bond if he could pull off the accent. IMHO
