As you may remember, we got hit by lightning a couple months ago and my RPTV's convergence went out. I was able to manually adjust it so we've been watching a slightly blurred set for awhile. My insurance covered a lot of items we lost, including the tree, but gave us 700 bucks to replace the TV. After researching and looking at the displays, I decided to chip in 600 bucks of my own and get the Sony. The set itself looks to be better built than the Vizio- which was the other set I was considering, and it has a tuner, which the Vizio didn't, for OTA viewing.

Ultimately I decided to spend some of my own money to get the Sony vs getting the Vizio for "free". We'll see if it was a good decision over time. I should have it here by next weekend.

Sony sets have better image processing, so it should do a better job with 1080p content. They also tend to have more accurate color rendition. The main downside with all of these sets is that they are edge lit, but the Sony sets tend to leak less. You might have to tweak the settings a bit to eliminate any banding.
