Taco Bell ruined Steve Miller Band song!!!

Flint

Prodigal Son
Superstar
I am marathon watching a Fox show on Hulu+ and, as all you Hulu users know, they force ads into the playback of free broadcast shows. The tend to repeat the same ads over and over and over on Hulu, so if an advertisement annoys you, it will drive you fuckin' nuts.

Taco Bell is running an ad for their Crunch Wrap menu and are using the Steve Miller song "Take the money and run", which is a fun little tune. I remember listening live when it was premiered for the first time ever on El Paso radio station KLAQ, "The Q".

I enjoyed hearing it again the first time I saw the Taco Bell ad. But by the tenth playing of the ad, i started noticing how they had edited the song, which is also usually fine. But then it hit me, they had taken parts of the original song and added a second singer (or couple of singers) doubling the lead vocal part - pretty much fucking up the whole song without adding any value at all. In fact, it pretty much ruined the song altogether. That just sucks because I really enjo hearing the song.

Since Hulu runs these ads over and over and over and over and over again, I will be forced to hear that damn fucked up remix of the song until I go crazy.

You may find you wear out the "Mute" button on your remote prematurely, as I'm about to. :|

If that were the only thing Taco Bell ever ruined It'd be a first.

Huh! Maybe I missed something but I thought that happened years ago.

Umm, ya we were all pretty clear on that.

Havent heard the edited version of the song for the commercial so I cant comment on that. :teasing-tease:

You can get software that will allow you to download the Hulu show and rip the ads out of it. :)

I find my time and convenience is worth MUCH more than the time it would take to load an app, illegally download the content, open it in an editor, and cut out the ads. I know people who do it, and they are proud of it, but I've asked them how long it takes for each show, and they could've just sat in their HT seat and watched the show with the ads in less time.

Or they could get on a forum and create a post complaining about having to sit through those ads?? :teasing-tease:

I find the entertainment value of the shows I watch on Hulu+ outweigh the irritation of the ads I am forced to watch. I also find pleasure through cathartic bitching on this forum worth the time it takes to post it. I even find responding to snark assholes entertaining and fun.

Ultimately, everything I do is chosen through a very simple cost/benefit analysis.

Just for you Flint!

Happy New Year!

Ditto. My money is on it being covered by a studio band.

^ That'd be correct. I think it's almost always less expensive for companies to buy the rights to use the song but have someone else record/perform it than it is to use the original. Sometimes artists are just too far out of touch.

We have a refinery in town that also owns a convenience store chain. Last year they looked into using Edgar Winter's Free Ride for a commercial. Mr. Winter wanted $400,000. :scared-eek:

Needless to say, they went another direction.
