^ American Idol has run it's course, IMO. I gave up on the program a long time ago! Awesome for these ladies for doing it their way! :handgestures-thumbup:
AI is definitely on the way out... I get the feeling it would be long gone if Fox could think of anything likely to make as much money for them in that same time slot. While it's past its prime and hemorrhaging viewers (and honestly, the whole "This is the best talent ever" has been a bold-faced lie for several seasons now), it isn't going to be all the way gone until the money dries up too.
Right now, American Idol has a pretty horrific record at creating stars- with only a handful of exceptions most of them have been flash in the pan artists (Only Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood have managed to maintain real success; a couple others have kept their career going, but the earth has opened up and swallowed the vast majority of them). If the art aspect of music is what makes it worthwhile for them, they're much better off passing the show by and keep on keeping on.
I only watched AI for one season, when Carrie Underwood won it. A couple of friends from my old job kept railing on how I should give it a chance since I am as big of a music fan as they are.
I just couldn't get into a second season. Sure the train wrecks are funny (at times), but there's only so much I can take. As far as the friends, I think they quit watching it when Simon left.
