Just digging into this. Their 27 #1 hits, remixed onto two 5.1 Bluray audio disks (tastefully, thank goodness) with many live videos that I'm not sure I've seen, and some of the music is live (on A Hard Day's Night, John backs up too much and his cord jerks out of his guitar, but you don't hear that). CD and Very Complete liner notes, too. Very Highly Recommended!

Ok maybe it's time I owned at least one Beatles recording.... this would be my first. :scared-yipes: (although I ordered just the single BD "1" version)

Gotta admit I'm kinda guilty there too; I only have the two Greatest Hits double albums (with the four looking down from a square staircase, red then blue). There's no "filler" on a Beatles album, I should have them all.

It's pretty cool to hear the increase in fidelity over the 6 or so years they recorded. I think they only recorded the first couple albums on a three-track; just a few songs later the 5.1 really starts sounding nice, Eleanore Rigby and Come Together sound amazing!! I'll probably watch the second Bluray after supper.

Botch, I just got mine. I'm not a Beatles fan & never bought any of their stuff but when this was posted, something said....buy this !
I've only watched the first bluray and found it entertaining, enough that I'm glad I ordered it.
A good friend of mine (that loves them) is planning on a visit just to check it out.....his wife is Filipino also so the hens can do their thing and we'll do our thing.....watch/listen to music.

Anxious to hear your, and your friends, opinions.

So are the 5.1 songs audio only? Or are the 5.1 only on music videos? I get confused when I look online at Best Buy since there's like a gazillion different versions. I guess I'm wondering what's on the bluray.

^^
Each song is a recording of them performing that song or lip synching and/or stage acting. A few are just some art work w/music. You have 3 audio choices : stereo, DTS 5.1, or DD 5.1.
Botch, wished they had the whole concert at Shea Stadium. The video of the crowd is wonderful......talk about big hair.
There is one song that they are doing in a studio with a crowd, flowers in the hair, folks look pretty high on something, and this one old fart with flowers in his hair was patting Paul on his back while Paul was playing the piano....classic.

Check out the "Paul's Comments" on that disk. That guy was a street person who always hung out outside that theater, was always very polite and the Beatles got to know him fairly well. When they filmed All you need is Love they took great pains to have folks from all walks of life and many cultures in the room, and they invited that beggar in too. Neat story. :handgestures-thumbup:

EDIT: I may be getting the stories mixed up, Paul was playing Bass on AYNIL, I think you were talking about Hey Jude... I'll be watching everything over many times, I'll eventually get it right!

I bought the Blu-ray only version today while visiting a real-life record store. $23.99C plus tax.

Just spun my way through about a third of the tracks - stopping at a number of eras.

Tracks are available in high-res PCM stereo, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, and DD 5.1 (at 640kbps). I engaged DTS for my first spin.

On the plus side... the clips / vignettes / videos are fun, cute, and for the most part, the lips sync well to the music.

On the minus side... the audio is no great shakes, especially on their earlier songs. At one point I flipped from the Blu-ray version of "Can't Buy Me Love" to the stereo MP3 version ripped from the old A Hard Day's Night CD streamed from my server. I liked the latter better. When I engaged the faux surround of Dolby PLIIx Music: even more so. (Another annoyance with the Blu-ray: long cue / title time between tracks. Unlike throwing on a CD and just listen to track after track, here you get track, pause, track, pause, track, pause, etc.)

Bottom line (based on this early listen): I would not invest in this one for the sound alone. If you already own all the songs on CD then you've got all the sound you need. (I also own Love, CD and DVD-A, and those re-thought tracks sound far better to me. There's a big overlap on the track listings between these two and if you want your fix of Beatles in surround mode, get a copy of Love instead!)

I plan to give it a more thorough listen over the next few days, both in DTS and PCM stereo.

Jeff

Your right Jeff, don't buy this for audio.
I didn't own any Beatles stuff till this. Its okay but way overpriced. I'll keep it and watch again in the future......I'm still not a Beatles fan.
