The Bee Gees

Anybody catch the Grammy tribute to the Bee Gees last Sunday? I DVR'd it, and have watched it a couple of times already, and plan to watch it with the wife as well. I don't think I've ever heard Demi Lovato sing, but she did a great job.

I remember the hatred for disco in the late 70's, and I think they kind of got lumped in with that, which is too bad, because they're music is great. Learned on the show that Barry is the 2nd most successful singer/songwriter, Paul McCartney is number one. Think about that, he beats Brian Wilson in the singer songwriter category. One of the Jonas brothers sang I wanna be your everything, by brother Andy, so I peruse amazon looking for a greatest hits cd, and they want $200+ for it. Other cds were pricey as well, but not to that magnitude. Wonder why a cd that came out in 2012 is valued at so much?

???

Right now you can buy The Bee Gees' Number Ones for $0.23 used off Amazon.com.

But I recommend that you sample an album or two instead. Lots of great tracks on most of what they did. Disco (Saturday Night Fever) was but a small part of their repertoire. (And the disco that they did do was pretty good!)

It was brother Andy's Greatest Hits that was so expensive. And I do have other cd's other than Saturday Night Fever, with a live album of theirs being probably my favorite.

Yeah, Andy Gibb's three studio albums have been out of print for a while - available (on and off) on streaming services only. That sort of thing tends to drive up prices considerably.

The Greatest Hits CD included three songs not on his studio releases. There's also two releases: 1980 and 1991. The latter is missing one of those three songs. It's also the one going for way stupid prices on Amazon. (The 2012 date is just a reissue date. It's the same as the 1991 release - as far as I can tell.)

Well maybe I'll get lucky and find it elsewhere for a much cheaper price.

Wow, that's crazy. I cant remember seeing anything else priced that high. I just looked it up and sure enough they had one for 75.98 and the 20th century masters collection was 79.98 and they had another for 212.00.

I occasionally come across a CD that I'd really like to get, but only see it going for some ridiculous amount. I usually add it to my Amazon wish list and check its price every so often. I occasionally get lucky (sometimes REALLY lucky - see my post elsewhere about the Skylark CD!) when a copy appears for a reasonable amount.

What usually makes a CD stupid expensive, or not, is whether it can be downloaded / streamed / torrented or not. (It goes without saying that it's also out of print.) And that's what's particularly weird about the Andy Gibb CD(s). With but little to no effort I was able to find all of his stuff readily available in non-CD format. Go figure.

And by the by, if anyone has, or knows where to obtain at a "usual" CD price, Renee Olstead's CDs Stone Country and Unleashed I'd love to hear from you. They're the longest residents of my wish list - with no end in sight. (The former is almost never available and the latter is typically $125 or so.)

All of that makes sense, but I would have never guessed there was that much of a market for Andy Gibb. Good for him. I was always a casual fan of his and definitely a fan of the Bee Gees.

Umm, you know that he died in 1988? Pretty sure he's not getting much out of this ongoing popularity. :)

Yes I realize that. Thank you. I was just commenting that success and recognition even post mortem is good. I'm happy for him.o_O

Sorry to belabor the point (actually not) but he's dead. How can anything happening now be "good for him?" ;)

Oh, and you're welcome. (We need an emoji for Canadian politeness and civility - not that I'd use it much...)

Jeff, most Yanks visit the burial sites of their deceased and leave a small collection of the chopped-off sex organs of certain plants, too. It's a thing.

I'm pretty sure that not just an American thing ... just sayin.

Jeff, you are correct. You are correct in your evaluation of my statements. I give up. You win.:veryangry:
