The science of the f-hole

Yes it is, However I also look at them as a tuned port in the speaker box. The difference here is that the bridge and strings are transferring some of the string vibrations and energy into the top. Creating a resonance inside the open cavity and escaping out of the f holes or ports. This tuned chamber is very much a part of the sound of each instrument in this line of strings.
