so, saw the trailer via ps3's flickster stuff. AMAZING stuff, i saw the brit tv show via amazon on sale on dvd. netflix shows a very long wait. anyone know about this series? i want to buy the dvd set, and put that on my YOUR gift list. tell me more fellow spy enthusiast.

anyone?

(this is a repost by the way, thank you bats for the aforementioned gesture)

Back on topic, anyone know where to start with this flick/book?

It is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

You may want to start with the book by John Le Carre. The TV series with Alec Guiness as spy George Smiley is excellent and as it is longer than the movie coming out it has time to tell the story close to the book plot.

After seeing Guiness in the part I am not sure I will care for the new version

hihihi!

bad memory on my end. thanks for the correction tho, i stand corrected sir!

anyways, which ones the first book tho,

from what i read/saw...

Tinker Tailor soldier spy,
then
Smileys people,

then what?

I REALLY want to buy the dvds... i rarely have time to myself aside from my games, what more read.

*sigh*

Tinker, tailor . . . Is the first book.

If you can get a good price on the DVD it is well worth it.

hmm. at 33 dollars for the set, might be worth it...

I will wait and see how it goes after the weekend.

Did you see it back then mzpro?

i have to admit tho, i 'watched' prime suspect with helen mirren for 20 minutes, and gave up.

sadly. i did.

now, with that said, will i end up in such disposition? or am i just fanatical over oldman?

I've not read the books nor seen any of the TV episodes. To be honest I didn't realize there was a series. Anyway, we watched it last night. You've really got to pay attention because there is a lot going on and the movie doesn't spoonfeed you any I the details.

Overall I thouught the movie was very good, buts it's not a Bourne style, action oriented kind of spy flick.

One weird thing... The volume on the sound track was so low that I had to have my system at FULL VOLUME to be able to hear it. I've never had the volume knob to 100% before and even then there were times I wanted to turn it up to make out the dialogue. I can only assume that the producers did this on purpose. There are four/five scenes that had some stunning bass levels and having the volume that high ment that there was plenty of headroom to shake the hell out of the room.

It is a complex story and one thing the TV series did was take the time to be more detailed.

I want to rent it but my local rental place does not have any BD copies. "not popular enough". WTF?

Watched the Blu-ray version a week or so ago and noticed no sound issues. Levels set as usual.

Weird.

I had the Onkyo 885 cranked to +9.5. When the movie was over I put in a concert BD (Queen in Montreux) without turningthe volume knob back down and damn near blew the windows out.

A friend at work lent me the original BBC miniseries on DVD. My wife and I are three episodes in and bored out of our minds. It is relentlessly, mind numbingly slow with no signs of it speeding up. If your idea of a gripping drama is stodgy Brits sitting in offices and parlors and having lengthy conversations full of jargon that you need to look up on wiki, then I suppose this is the show for you. Alec Guinness is a great actor and I love watching him, but the rest of it is just stupefyingly dull. We were both asleep by the end of the third episode. I doubt I will bother slogging through the rest.
