Trombones, PBS and Burt Bacharach

For the past hour or so I've had PBS on in the background, it's fundraising time, and they're featuring a biopic on Burt Bacharach, and its really bringing back the memories!
My first instrument was trombone, in 5th grade, and my "lesson books" featured a lot of Burt's melodies, including Alfie and I Say a Little Prayer (Dion Warwick), Close to You (Carpenters), Raindrops keep fallin on my Head (BJ Thomas (a classmate of mine, Chan Foresman, went on to play sax on the road with him)), One Less Bell to Answer (Fifth Dimension), and This Guy's in Love with You, (Herb Alpert, leader of the Tijuana Brass and the "A" in "A&M Records"). Damn, I'm laughing my butt off now at the Ed Sullivan clip with BJ Thomas, with the cardboard cloud coming down over him on cables, and dumping a watering can of water on him! :laughing-rolling:

I was holding out on my next PBS donation to get the EarthFlight bluray set (lots of GoPros strapped to migrating birds) but I may have to get this set instead. Or, also… :shifty:

In 5th grade all I can remember is playing some tune called electric rock. That and I remember switching the song for my tryout to a fine rendition of "how much is that doggy in the window" the morning of after spending the previous days practicing something else entirely. It's no wonder I was seated second to last chair. Something like 21st (we had a lot o trumpets). But then for the next tryout I didn't play such a lame song and moved all the way up to 4th. No idea what song it was. But Probably would've gone even higher had it been a Burt Bacherach tune!
