Tron 3

All personal or movie critic opinions of story/acting/etc. aside... Tron 2 was one of the best IMAX movie presentations I have ever seen or heard with Daft Punk soundtrack adding to immersive and very loud musical score. Looking forward to Tron 3 on the big screen hopefully just as big and loud with NIN soundtrack.

Can’t wait, it was your review of Legacy in IMAX that prompted me to take my sons to see it a day before it left theaters. At the time there were no IMAX theaters in Delaware so we had to drive a little over an hour and it did not disappoint. Still one of my fondest movie watching memories.

i was at launch at disneyland when it happened (tron legacy, just to clarify this edit), it was amazing. it was at california adventure... seriously didnt know it was happening until we walked passed it. we went inside to view the movie and boom!

the whole front of the park had blue accents EVERYWHERE. it was pretty amazing.

love daft punk, loved the movie, and look forward to this one, even with morbius in it. :D

D'oh. Had tickets and ended up cancelling them after seeing some reviews. I'm sure it's still great eye/ear candy but could the reviews be any worse? And I trust Mark Kermode he is my go to YouTube film critic... this is positively brutal...

So did you guys really have a positive view of Legacy? It was visually stunning and all but I thought it was a very unimaginative plot and the whole thing just plodded along.

Agreed my appreciation for Legacy was solely based on the in theater IMAX experience and technical merit. I was definitely willing to overlook a lot of critical content while I enjoyed the spectacle.

Admittedly there was a little nostalgia as well having seen the original Tron in theater with its (now) primitive looking effects. Seeing Legacy in IMAX was like a realization of what I think we were all imagining when we saw the old Tron back in the day. The closest comparisons I can make might be going from 1933 King Kong to Peter Jackson’s modern remake. Or even growing up reading Tolkien and seeing the primitive animated versions of LOTR… then seeing Jackson’s modern versions… it’s kinda fun to see all of these reimagined with realistic modern effects.

I’m sure Tron Ares probably looks and sounds great as well. I’m just less interested at this point after some of the train wreck reviews. Slow and unimaginative is one thing… but it sounds like this one is unbearable.

It was the very definition of a "popcorn flick". I loved watching it. But, thinking about it? No.
I loved it as an experience (visual/aural) and my 7 year old loved it as a 7 year old (who is now 17 and wants to see Ares also)
I'll be going to see it, hopefully in Cinemark XD soon (very busy early this week), but seems like my bar is set very low.

My wife and I saw it last Monday. It was ok. I don’t put it on the same level as the experience seeing Legacy in IMAX. That’s hard to recreate. I think they knew it too therefore leaning into the NIN factor for the marketing. This will also not be revisited by me like Legacy as it became demo material for years. There are some cool nods to the original which for me made this worth seeing at least once. Unfortunately I think this flick may be the final nail for the franchise. It’s such a shame because this is the kind of idea that should/could be utterly groundbreaking from all aspects.
