Interesting tech, aiming two “bendable” (?) ultrasonic beams towards someone’s ears, which combine to become audible. I didn’t quite understand it, but will be interesting if this ever becomes practical.

Those use the same technology that Yamaha's steerable HT speaker array from 13 years ago. Using phase relationships between multiple ultrasonic sources creates sound at a single spot and only at that single spot when they combine.

They are based on the inverse of the phase array mic or radar systems.

To a certain extent, yes. I am sure they tuned them to have a large window area of effectiveness while still being silent further away.
