Wheel of Time Pilot Aired the other night...quietly

Looks like a douche move on the part of Universal to retain the rights without substantive delivery.

I'm not sure that any video adaptation of Wheel of Time is going to work. They'll have to slash and burn the thing to get the narrative down to anything people want to watch... I'm not sure anybody wants to see three hours of braid-yanking action as Elaine, Egwene, and Nynaeve make their way from inn to inn. There's some great stuff in the series but condensing it down to a serial drama miniseries thing is going to end up using only a fraction of the books.

Let's face it, Jordan got diarrhea of the word processor when he wrote those books. You could very easily excise half the material and boil it down to something decent.

Very true.

There's some really interesting plot threads (I personally like Mat Cauthon's the best) and some that are just really tedious (most anything Nynaeve or Elaine). It's an interesting world Jordan made, he just wasn't good at editing things down. At all.

I started reading the books at age 19. By the time the last book came out, I was in my 40s. I have all the books, but got bogged down half-way through the second to last book when I realized that I no longer remembered what the hell was going on with half the plot lines. I need to re-read them, but that is such a daunting task at this point that I just haven't gotten around to it.

Not really...just skip books 6-11 as only 3 months (or something like that) goes by in the books!
:text-lol: :text-lol: :text-lol: :text-lol:

There is actually a Wheel of Time reread on the Tor website where each chapter is summarized and
pseudo analyized (generally once a week post)...and it took over 5 years!

Game of Thrones was similarly long (at least per book) and only spread out on plot lines and characters as it moved forward.
And that show is great and does not have a known end-point. I'm sure that they could cut the fat and/or
hit most of the major plot points and get many seasons out of it...come on HBO! Get it!!!

As another reader of the series, I was excited to see this post.

After reading the article- not so much. :angry-tappingfoot:
