Yamaha's "subwoofer-integrated" receiver

Not that I'm advocating anyone serious about their Home Theater ever consider this soundbar-based HTiB, at least not for their main HT, but I just thought it looked funky enough to share.

Just look at that vent/port in the front!!!

(btw... The model # is YHT-S400BL, and apparently for today (Monday, Jan 23) it's Amazon's Gold Box deal. That's how I stumbled across it.)

i recommended a yammy soundbar before, and had some great results from it as a Three channel rig. Nonetheless, this Receiver/subwoofer is a bit ridiculous. Like judge judy ridiculous.

Altho, lower frequencies are omnidirectional, but man, this is pushin it!

I think this is a pretty slick setup. Is it intended to give HTs a run for their money? Of course not. I'd even bet they're not trying to compete with HTiBs either. I think it's nothing more than a solution to the dreadful sound being produced by today's ultra thin TVs that just don't have the girth to house acceptable speakers. So for people that just want better sound than a garden variety TV can produce on its own but don't want the hassle and/or expense of HTiB or full fledged HT, this is the ticket.

guys at Bose must kicking themselves... "why didn't we think of that" :angry-banghead: :teasing-neener: :teasing-neener:

I'd laugh, heartily, 'cept I'm a long-time Yamaha fan. :?

All true. It's probably a nice product for some folks. Still... it's a little bit different.

First application I thought of was my kids gaming area where I just don't have the room for a sub...like Zing, I feel it has scenarios where it'd be okay or at least better than the tv.

Now, an engineering question: how well do wave- and pad-soldered joints, IR receiver modules, and pin connections, hold up to low-frequency flexing?
