This is a repost of a thread that did not survive the migration.

Was entering some album info into my database when I noticed the entry for "Popcorn" by Hot Butter (1972) that I have on vinyl. Talk about Moog flashback! The song "Popcorn" was THE song that was played over and over and over again at the local arena where, along with most everyone else in town, you went to skate round and round and round the rink with your friends on a winter Friday evening. If you were really lucky, you'd make that circuit holding hands with a pretty girl!

Anyhow, I was looking for a CD copy and cripes! They're apparently a bit of a rarity - at least judging by the asking price fro the "original" CD issue as well as the later CD re-issue - which included tracks from Hot Butter's only other album.

Wanting to hear the song regardless, and being too laze to grab and play the vinyl record, I checked out YouTube and came across this video (never saw anyone DANCE to it before!):

Did not remember the song to be as "complex" as I now hear it.

And still under that "neat coincidence" file, yesterday I watched some of Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygene Moscow" (synthesizer-based) concert and today I came across this incorrectly-attributed take on "Popcorn."

Not a bad version.

As for Jarre, I love "Oxygene 4" (the fourth movement of "Oxygene"). I'll see if I can find it as a stand-alone on YouTube.

Here it is.

What was the original source of the first video? Was there a TV show that featured high-school kids dancing?

That last one reminds me of literally every mid seventies sci-fi movie.

Not sure but, judging from the accent of the guy sitting around the table at the end, it was almost certainly a French (as in France) "variety / dance" (as they do it) show.

Jeff

The way the camera kept focusing on boobies, yeah I'd say France too.

I can't imagine that either of you watch the cartoon Rick and Morty but I noticed Popcorn was playing in one scene of last night's episode.

I remember that song from my childhood. I too didn't remember it being that complex.

Jeff,

How much were the CDs going for? Maybe check out cdandlp.com for some of the rarer albums. I've had good luck with that sight.
