I've just upgraded the forum software to Xenforo 2.0. Please let me know if you have any problems with it. I'm still working on installing styles... coming soon.
With all the changes I'd made to my theater (new Marantz SR 6012 receiver, new Samsung 65" Q8f display), I was thinking the only other change I might consider was new speakers, but figured that would be a while out.
The wife was asking me what I'd like for Christmas (apparently, she had no...
Well, DUH.
What I wonder is, since it tends to make stuff look bad and even Hollywood knows it, why is it not only included on TVs, but turned on by default? I've yet to see anything, even sports, that's improved by it. It all ends up looking like a cheap soap opera.
Because my "good set of headphones" has been appropriated by the lovely and otherwise wonderful Mrs. Akula, and I make do with a Bose wireless set that pales before my Sennheiser HD580s but is way more convenient when traveling. But seriously, I do tend to prefer some tweaks to the sound. I just...
What I found with the iPhone is more that it could use a better and more accessible EQ than it has. It has the "idiot's EQ" (under the settings for Music) where you can pick one of the presets of "rock/electronic/pop/etc." (there's a lot of choices), but at no point are you able to set the...
I turned off the Eco setting. Like you, I noticed that there wasn't much calibration needed (I used the THX app on my phone). It was really pretty close out of the box. I had to kill the motion smoothing effects too- I hate what that does to motion.
We have a 65" QLED. Pretty doesn't even begin to cover it. The only sets I've seen that might be better are the OLEDs from LG. And I wasn't convinced those were so much better to be worth the extra $500.
The AT&T head honcho has said they won't be launching any more satellites for the DirecTV service- the existing setup will continue for now, but they plan to transition to a pure streaming service over time...
I already am not one who likes to watch a lot of internet videos. If I start one and see an unskippable ad, about 75% of the time I just close the video and go on with my life.
I get that content providers and distributors need to be paid- I do. Thing is, they can only monetize things to the...
Nice.
I have the 65" Q8FN. It works great. Even better once you turn off all the damn motion smoothing stuff.
Personally, I'm with Flint on the cables. I wasn't sure if my 11 year old HDMI 1.3a cable was able to do the 4K stuff. I figured I'd go for it and see what happened. It's fine. No issues.
It's not so much that I don't expect they'll be good, it's more a matter of we don't sit around watching TV every single evening and for those we do, we either have TV shows we're already watching to fill the time or we just want something mindless that we don't feel the need to follow along (if...
It's a great, if not the best, example I've yet seen on "how to end a show RIGHT." They didn't beat it to death, they finished the narrative and drew things to a close.
I saw they were going to put them out, I haven't seen what the shows are.
Honestly, I don't usually watch the shows produced by the streaming services. That may change, but as of yet I've never found one that we've gotten into.
I'm not sure- we were customers until early this year, but then it was pretty strong. Used to be, if you had clear line of sight to the sky (or at least nothing like a tall building or mountain next to you), you got a good signal.
But given what they charge, they don't really have a lot of room...
I upgraded my first gen Xbox One to a One X and the TV to a 4K HDR (I need to make a post about my theater updates), and HDR sure does look pretty. I enjoyed the first RDR, I'll have to see if I feel like I have time to take on another game before I buy the second. I do know Destiny 2 looks nice...
