Help me choose a new TV

You're right, and it's next on the list. I have to get some patch cables to connect the TV to the preamp & computer speakers.

Help me choose a new TV

So far the picture on the TV is really nice. The audio section is not so hot, lacking in low-end response. My wife has openly complained about the freq. response of the built-in speakers and wants to cannibalize the old Mits TV speakers for use here since they sound way better. The TV has a...

Help me choose a new TV

Went to BB and picked up a 70" Sharp. http://www.amazon.com/Sharp-LC-70SQ15U- ... B00HZZZM1K I'll put up a picture here tomorrow. The BB I go to has a single curved 55" LG 1080p OLED TV next to a bunch of curved LCD 4k TVs (can't remember the brand) and Sony 4k LCD TVs. The OLED TV is simply...

Yeah, that sounds like the best thing to do. Decent set to move around when OLED comes around.

Help me choose a new TV

Was really hoping this RPTV would last long enough for OLED sets to be commonly available. I like the picture of the Sharp sets. Not too keen on getting a 4k unit now when OLED is right around the corner. Will probably check out some 1080p Sharp sets at TigerDirect in Orlando tomorrow.

Help me choose a new TV

My Mits 65" RPTV died for the third time today. The other two repairs were ~$400 each. Bought it either late 1999 or early 2000, so it has been a good run. Budget is $2500. Suggestions on a 70"?

    NAD AV Receivers

How about this stereo amp? http://www.ebay.com/itm/David-Hafler-DH ... 35da987f6d Or perhaps this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hafler-TransNov ... 2c88e79ba5 I used a Hafler XL600 and then a pair of bridged P3000 Hafler amps for years with Martin Logan ReQuests and liked the setups very much.

    NAD AV Receivers

I recall NAD and Proton equipment marketing in the '80s touting 'high headroom' dual voltage amps. Do they still use the 'dual voltage' design?

One step closer to mainstream OLED TVs

Try an iphone 5 and galaxy s5 set next to each other and see for yourself. :) OLED (IMO) is more accurate, has better blacks, doesn't have that plasticky look to large color blocks, is better at low light levels with the screen intensity turned down.

Need advice connecting new TV to old Receiver

I would think the headphone jack route will be just fine. We've used that cable with phones as sources at the GTGs and the loss, if any, was minimal.

The Ten Best, and Five Worst, Science Fiction Movies

There are different takes on mermaids and insanity inducing sirens, Jeff. :) If a mermaid 'claims' you as she did to Tom Hanks in that film, you're OK underwater entirely at her whim. Lets just hope she doesn't tire of ol' Tom while looking at a 100' ascent to the surface. I knew the film...

The Ten Best, and Five Worst, Science Fiction Movies

Botch, go watch Blade Runner. The urban vistas in the film have a sense of realism that exceeds those in "The Fifth Element" and star wars III. What happens when striving for perfection goes very right and very wrong (Leon). This movie, when it first came out, typecasted Daryl Hannah forever...

    A Capella singing?

Anybody here like a capella singing? I've gone to barbershop quartet invitational concerts wife my wife and have been amazed at an individual's command of their octave(s). This Pentaponix group is current, takes advantage of excellent video production, and has the benefit of a fifth, which...
