A response of "yeah, especially if you mean a BASKETBALL room like a gym" was probably in order. I agree with your statements about the status, too. John

What are you doing with Alexa?

One thing that you can't do (that I know of) is turn a light on for a set time. For example, "Alexa, turn on the lamp for five minutes". That can't be that hard to integrate. John

What are you doing with Alexa?

And A/C is better to be scheduled, I believe. The reason being by the time you pull up to the house, it's really too late because it can take a while to catch up - especially in climates like yours and mine. I just think it would be nice to pull up to the house and have the lights on and...

What are you doing with Alexa?

I understand that, too, and may move away from it as I go along. Right now I don't have Jan's phone doing any geofencing yet (which I actually care more about than my phone doing it). As far as the multiple phones, it's easy enough to set up if conditions that prohibit the lights from going...

What are you doing with Alexa?

So I've been working with geofencing with mixed results. The first night was quite frustrating because the bedroom lights would randomly come on because my phone kept thinking it was leaving the house. This was primarily due to the fact that since phones use wifi networks to help locate...

What are you doing with Alexa?

^^^That gives me very mixed emotions because I've been looking forward to it for a long time. On the other hand that means I'm slipping ever closer to the edge of Sonos land which is awesome and wonderful...and expensive. Can somebody throw me a rope? John

Next Gen Amazon Fire TV about to hit market?

Is that a big deal to you guys? The screen will upconvert the image to 4K (and they do a really good job, especially compared to when things were upconverted to HD). I'm not sure about the HDR though. John

What are you doing with Alexa?

The only reason would be for extended coverage area. So far, I don't need the second one (or the original Wink hub I also have) as everything is working fine with the one hub. John

What are you doing with Alexa?

As for the plug-in switch I would recommend Belkin, Leviton, or Lutron. I have two Levitons that work very well and every Lutron device I've used for myself and others has been flawless. I've read good things about the Belkin, too. The dead bolt we put in my friend Steven's house is more than...

What are you doing with Alexa?

I don't have a Lutron hub, using the Wink for that part. So for the fan you have basic on/off control through the switch. I thought maybe you had a fan which would allow you to adjust the speed and dim the light. There is one on the Wink site but that's the only one I've seen that natively...

What are you doing with Alexa?

Very familiar with the Caseta lights but didn't know about the ceiling fans. I'll dig into this but are the fans branded by Lutron or is there a Lutron controller that handles them? (BTW, IMHO the Pico controllers for the Caseta dimmers are da bomb because you add them anywhere you wish you...

What are you doing with Alexa?

I use the "Our Groceries" skill and app instead of the default. Our Groceries lets you create multiple lists (Publix, Target, Costco, etc.). Then you simply say "Alexa tell Our Groceries to add eggs to Publix." Eggs appears on the Publix list virtually immediately. John

What are you doing with Alexa?

Now that Alexa is being added to more control devices and many controllable devices are compatible directly or through "concentrators" such as Wink or Google Home, how many of you are using this type of stuff? We still don't have web service (or cable TV) in our new house yet (they're supposed...

Next Gen Amazon Fire TV about to hit market?

Interesting. I keep my Dot on top of the TV stand under the TV which puts it w/in 6" of my right speaker. I don't have issues with it hearing or understanding me. The only rare exception is when it's something odd (like adding an unusual item to my grocery list) and the sound is pretty loud...

Help! Need Remote Control Code for Optoma Projector / Onkyo Remote

Oh, I'll take that challenge head on. URC for example has devices that can open/close contacts that can be used to enable powered circuits etc. Crestron goes well beyond that so, careful about broad statements like that. (If you have devices that aren't remote controllable we could use...
