According to Fox, based on trends at CES, 3DTV is dead. Again.

I must say, I'm not surprised. Most of us here, even if we thought the effect was cool, just weren't interested. It looks like most consumers weren't either.

3D just seems to rarely work out. Even though theaters are still using it, it doesn't seem to be pushed as hard as it was a few years ago. It works fine for some amusement park attractions, but even then I'm not sure that most of the time it's all that necessary. It can lend an amount of immersion to the experience, but we're so used to 2D entertainment that it doesn't seem to be a big problem if you don't have it.

VR is the new 3D. All the artists and engineers who had been trying to make 3D enjoyable are doing VR now.

One key flaw in all the 3D tech was the fixed focus point of the content. Our brains couldn't process that problem and it prevented the complete suspension of reality for the viewer.

Although, on my Projector, some 3D titles are fantastic....Gravity and Finding Nemo. Others, not so much.

My TV supports 3D and came with a couple pairs of glasses, but I haven't even tried it yet.
