That was good and I can say that may be the first time I have seen someone play an electric violin.

I could have done without the constantly panning around them though, that was hugely distracting. It may not have been the panning just the speed at which it did so...

Sorry but that would not be. He was not playing an electric violin. Just a regular violin, with a surface mic running from it to his loop equipment etc.

When I see "electric violin" I immediately think of the great Jean Luc Ponty. Here's an example of him playing electric violin.

NOW you can say you've seen someone play electric violin for the first time. :)

OK so my ignorance leaves me with only the option of accepting your correction but I have to ask what the foot pedals are for? Why would a mic need variable settings on the fly like that?

It's not the mic that needs any settings changed. I'd assume the foot switches activate tracks he just played allowing him to play another while you hear all.

Yeah, violinists in a band may use effects pedals just like with guitars. (The violinist in the band I worked with a while back had one.) And yes, the pedals often include a loop recorder/controller.

Yup, this. He played the first part (first 1/4 of the song), looped it, then played another part over the top of the first, looped that, etc. The last 1/4 of the song was the 3 parts he'd just played, with a 4th part live over the top. That he did it so well without having to "fix" anything speaks to the discipline of a good classical musician! :bow-blue:
I borrowed and played with a looper a few years back, although I never put my (ahem) electric violin through it. It had a preset "song" built in as a demo, the a capella intro to Bohemian Rhapsody, which also took your vocal live and synthesized higher and lower tones so you could sing chords. It was really cool! :banana-rock:

Thank you all for clarity. My ignorance he's been replaced with understanding.
To further your understanding...

I think Ed Sheeran is the best of current artists using looping techniques. He plays stadiums solo - no backing band.

Here he is giving a neat looping demonstration.

KT Tunstall is pretty damn adept at looping also.

Love KT Tunstall. Thanks for that post Bats!

I filmed this guy performing by the pool at the resort I am having my board meeting at this week. His name is Casey Turner and is relateively okay as a performer, though his own compositions all sound identical (to me at least).

Anyway, he was playing a ukelele run through a looper and even switched on a vocal harmonizer for certain singing lines in his performance. It was interesting, but I found it to be too much. It was refreshing when he played a tune with just his singing and one guitar.
