Amazon Prime Music

I'm starting to notice more and more songs available free for streaming, and trying to figure out if there is a way to do this with the Squeezebox, or at least my Roku. I did a search and didn't seem to find anything. Anybody figure out if there was a way to do this? I could get a mini RCA and just use the app on my phone, but I would rather be able to control the music with my phone while sitting on the deck, like I do with my music library.

I've never had to buy one, but there has to be an inexpensive (I'm thinking $30-50) Bluetooth receiver with RCA outs...

Something from this page perhaps?

Thanks Batman, i hadn't thought of doing something like that, but that would work. I can understand there may never be a squeezebox app since they have stopped supporting the products, but if Amazon wants to compete with Pandora and the likes, they need to come up with something that at least works with a Roku or bluray players. Although I'm sure I'm in the minority, as most probably would just stream to their phones.

I looked at the Squeeze Box and if there were apps available to be run just like the others I use, Sirius, Pandora and Sky.The only one available is the Amazon CD store. Maybe they'll add one. I'm not interested in spending anything. They're just too many other choices to be bothered with that IMO.

Have you done a search for the app on your Roku? I'm pretty sure I have an amazon app for music, along with the Amazon Prime app for movies/shows. I imagine music app will be no different. if it is, then I don't think it will be long before Prime Music is added to their main Roku app.

Unless they make you buy their FireTV to have all that......

Going to play around with the Roku in a bit to see if there's anything on there yet. I hope something gets added if there's not one on there, it would be a pretty cool way to enjoy some new music without spending any money.

Operative words, spend money. For free music?

Well everything has a cost, and it really isn't free considering you have to buy a prime membership, but might as well take advantage of it if I can.

FYI, the Roku channel to install is Amazon Cloud Player. Just got it registered, now I'm off to check it out.

I decided to pay the $25/year to put my music in Amazon's cloud, mainly because it will simplify access across a bunch of devices. The only drawback is that it won't work on my Windows Phones, but I have Plex and Google Play Music (via the CloudMuzik app) for that.

It seems, or at least I can't figure it out, that the only music that will show up in that channel, is music that you have purchased from Amazon. It might play stuff that you uploaded to the cloud like Haywood, I just haven't uploaded any, so I can't verify that. Hopefully in an update, they will allow the your Prime Music to show up in there as well.

You can add Prime music to your library, so I'm guessing that is how it works.

If you go to Amazon's digital music site, you'll see on some songs the option of either buying or adding to your Prime Music library. I did that on a few songs yesterday, and they show up on the Amazon player of my phone, but not the Roku. Might have to do with licensing, or maybe they just haven't updated the Roku channel to be able to play them yet.

Well, this is an experiment for me. If I'm not happy with the results, I just won't spend the $25 to renew my Amazon Music account next year.

After doing some digging, it sounds like your purchased music, and the stuff you uploaded, will show up on the Roku, so you should be good. It's just the free Prime music that you can add to the cloud library that won't show up.

Which honestly makes it less appealing, especially since Amazon does not support Windows Phone and I already have my music in Google Play and on Plex.

It's the same thing for Amazon Music app on the Fire TV. Right now only the purchased music shows up (I don't have uploaded music to their cloud). Yet the Amazon music app on my Android phone lets me play the prime music albums that I have added. It makes zero sense.
It's one of the reasons that I don't use the service. Google Play Music is so much better. It's what I use on those rare occasions when I need music when not at home or in my car.

If I can ever fix the genre tagging issue in Plex, I will likely just stick to using that.

with google play, do they have a streaming service too, for free?

i basically stick to using pandora and songza (which btw, was purchased by google, sadly now infested with ads.

No streaming service but you can upload up to 20,000 of your songs on their cloud for free. Then use Play Music app to play those songs.
