Amp for living room sub

I have an Acoustic Research ARS300 sub, that i've had for probably a decade. See it here: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ljxEZU3APgA/p_058S300B/Acoustic-Research-ARS300.html

The "Bob Carver / Sunfire" amp blew out probably 5 years ago now, and i got it repaired (replaced?) by AR. It blew again a couple months ago. I am not going to get it repaired this time. Is it worth spending $140 - $200 to get a new amp to power it, and if so, should i go with a plate amp like this: http://www.parts-express.com/yung-s...ofer-plate-amplifier-module-no-boost--301-508 , or maybe an actual outboard amp like this: http://www.parts-express.com/behringer-a500-reference-power-amplifier-2-x-300w--248-749

I like that the Behringer has a 3 year warranty, and that it's more versatile, as i could re-purpose it in the future to power speakers. But it is $200, and at that point, maybe i should just save up enough to buy an HSU STF-2 @$400, or even the well-regarded NXG NX-BAS-500 at $270. http://www.amazon.com/NXG-Technology-NX-BAS-500-500-watt-Subwoofer/dp/B008FSTU4G/

It just feels wasteful to toss out a perfectly good cabinet and driver in the ARS300 when all i need is a new amp. What say you?

Oh, i should mention that since it blew out a couple months ago, i've been powering it with a single channel off of an old 5.1 Onkyo receiver. It works, but obviously not as well as it did with its old amp.

</SNEAK>I slowly walk up beside you and push you onto the new sub idea. </END SNEAK>

Get a new sub. You know you'll thank us later. If Ms. Saldog gets too upset tell her we all said to do it and hand her a bottle of Fireball (maybe a small bottle).

Have you opened it up and checked the fuses. Just an idea. A decade ago I had an old JBL sub (mom has it now) where the amp no longer worked a simple fuse was all that was needed and my mom still uses it on a daily basis.
