Audio Issues?

heeman

PRETTY HAPPY.........
Famous
Two nights in a row now, turn on all equipment pop in the BR...................NO SOUND??

Verify all connections, swap BR, NO SOUND.

Cycle all equipment, sound..................................... :angry-banghead:

Weird

I've had occasional issues but power cycling the processes fixes it. Considering that my processed is refurbished and was in a rack that fell down, I assume it's the issue.

Sounds like an HDMI hiccup, to me. If it persists, I might suggest trying a different cable and/or a different input/output connection.

That's what it sounds like to me too. Have you tried plugging/unplugging the HDMI cable? Swap it out with another cable?

I'd lay odds it's HDCP handshake horse shyt. Not only does it prevent piracy (which it doesn't) it prevents you from listening/viewing your own content. Three cheers for HDCP!

I would just ask Zing!!!!!

:laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

I just couldn't resist!!!!

For those of you don't know. My luv of technology comes from many, many years with Zing. When I come across an issue & I can't find a solution to whatever problem I may have, he is my go to. Sometimes, he just can't help, I STRESS... just sometimes! ;) It always stymies me! Sometimes, an argument ensues!!! But then we make up!!!

Being that it acts up not only with the BR Player it does it also with the DirecTV Box.

Handshake issue it most likely is...............................

After the Recall on this AVR and having it fixed, who knows what will pop up next!

Okay, once again, after reading many threads about this issue over at another place, Once Again this appears to be a Manufacturing Issue with Onkyo. It is not a handshake issue at all!

I will be in contact with Onkyo over the next couple of days to see if this will be covered by any kind of recall "Know Issue" warranty. If so, our plan will be to send it out for repair and then probably use it in the Den.

Barb says "Let's just get a new one for the Home Theater".

So, I run separate Power Amps, Do I go Pre/Pro at the added expense or once again an AVR with Pre-Outs and save a boat load of money??

Ultimately, you're paying for a lower noise floor with seperates, however the pre/pro will offer more features than AVR. Lower heat is yet another advantage pre/pro offers vs AVR with unused amp section generating heat.

One inexpensive Pre/Pro I would get if I were you is Outlaw's 975.

Or, if you hurry...like today...this one:

http://www.sherbourn.com/products/pt7030

You won't get a better deal. Check out the specs on it.

^ I just got off the phone with Sherbourn. He explained the new company and it's structure and Emotiva.

He is actually suggestion the Emotiva UMC-200 7.1 FOR $599. I don't use any of the bells and whistles on my AVR. I pass the Video and Audio Straight through. They have a 5 year warrenty and a 30 in home trial period, buyer pays shipping if decided to return.

Comments are welcomed! I think that T7 was thinking about this unit as well a while back.

It looks like the way to go is either the Outlaw 975 or the Emotiva UMC200?

I am waiting for a call back from Outlaw.........

Jamhead, which one would you go for and why?

Any other comments are greatly appreciated!

Looks like a toss-up to me. I wouldn't use a lot of the "extras" on the Emo unit. If it were me, I'd go with the Outlaw for no other reason than it looks better...and they've had success with prior preamps in regards to quality and durability.

I've heard/read that Emotiva can have some reliability issues, but I don't remember where I saw it. FWIW.

I came dangerously close to buying an Emotiva UMC-1 and boy... am I glad I didn't.

That thing has been a reliability and upgrading nightmare. The UMC-200 seems slightly more reliable but I'd still put it in the "questionable" class. There's a pretty active Wmptiva forum and there you'll read about all the issues. Personally, as I get older I just want things to work, without a lot of futzing around. Even if that means paying a little more or sacrificing features.

Amen, brother.

Nope, I purchased a couple "open box" pieces from One Call and then Amazon (until they screwed me)...
