Beach Boys - "That's why God made radio"

I am somewhat surprised to see a new album that includes both BW and ML. Do you have the whole album, Flint? I'm trying to decide if I want to buy it or not.

That "Radio" song's not half bad from what I can tell. It's simple. Catchy. An homage to the good old days of radio (and the good times we had back then) seems somehow fresh for a band that has been thick into nostalgia since the late 70s, even if the subject matter isn't exactly a complete deviation from the cliched themes of surf and sun, cars, and girls. Yet it definitely fits in great alongside such BB classics.

EDIT: Well I just broke down and downloaded the MP3 album from Amazon. At five bucks, it was cheap enough and it'll probably sound good enough for something I was on the fence about. Plus I get instant gratification. Besides, the CD will always be out there later on if I want. Or hopefully it will be, that is.

I bought a couple CDs at BB today, and wanted to pick this one up too, but they didn't have it. :(

I just realized that the song isn't "Peaches and Pie", which never quite made sense to me; but rather it is "Beaches in Mind". Am I alone in making this mistake? :music-listening:

Anyway... it's a nice enough record for a bunch of old farts. But I think the MP3 version I bought will suffice.

The reviews have been pretty mixed and relatively apathetic, but I have grown to really love the new Beach Boys album.

I think people have simply lost all interest in the same music they loved in the past. If Paul McCartney put out an album every bit as good as "Abbey Road", I am convinced it would flop. Abbey Road was great at that moment in time and is considered a classic - in today's market I believe it would flop.

Look at the new Van Halen album. It is every bit as good, and in some ways better, than any other Van Halen album from the 1980s. However, the moment in time when Van Halen was great is over, so no one seems to like the new album. I love it! I had my Zune on random while working in the yard yesterday and when one of the new Van Halen songs came on, at first I didn't recognize who it was and I fell in love with what I was hearing. Once I realized it was Van Halen, I loved it even more.

I guess you simply cannot go back.

The Beach Boys are performing in Sandy, UT on the 4th (45 minutes south of here), and my Mom is flying in that morning; if it weren't so danged hot I'd buy tickets. :|
