It wouldn't have to last more than an hour, or so, but having to unplug the power, find an outlets, and plug it back in every time I want to use it in a different room is annoying. With an hour of battery life, I would be okay using it for a bit in one room then bringing it back to the power cable after that.
I think you hit on their marketing strategy: They'll love the Echo so much, they'll want one in every room.

I think their marketing strategy will be more along the lines of making it a whole home device using
whatever type of connectivity and smaller remote devices connected to the main hub...then
connect it directly to Amazon.Prime for purchases.
The push button order thingy they have for specific items, but on a much larger scale.
And as I have said before (here and elsewhere), give me a CHEAP wall mountable flat touch screen that connects
to Echo and has my calendar and everything else...then add Prime to it and I'm in there like swim wear.
