Bryston Model T Speakers
20_032412tanner-600.jpg

Bryston's VP of Sales, James Tanner, has turned his hand to speaker design, and the result, now in advanced prototype form, was introduced at SSI 2012. Dubbed the Model T this is a tall floorstander, with custom drivers made by Canadian speaker manufacturer, Axiom, and features Bryston's BDX-1 digital crossover.

The DSP controls of the BDX-1 allow correction of both phase and frequency response; the latter is said to be 17Hz–25kHz, ±¼dB.
The Model T is a sealed-box system, with a sensitivity of 93dB.

The projected price, including the BDX-1 digital crossover, is $10.000/pair.

He is selling all his old demo speakers on Canuckaudiomart to make way for the Model T's. Doesn't say what kind of speakers they are though??

Sounds famialiar?

I seem to recall someone here doing that already, like 6 or 7 years ago.

I knew yours were active, but I didn't know they were digital (plus, 6 or 7 years ago I was still listening to a Walkman).

Yeah... I use a Behringer digital crossover with the analog section and digital clock modified for higher performance. I have a phase linear system with tilted flat amplitude response based on super high end transducers. Best of all worlds.

I guess my point wasn't so much "Wow , Bryston is making a speaker with a digital crossover!" as much as it was "Wow, WHY is Bryston getting into the speaker business?"
But I guess the answer is money, right? It is always about finding ways to make more money!!

Re: Bryston Ventures Into Home Speakers

They certainly LOOK nice enough...hopefully they sound good enough to justify their asking price. $7500 for their flagship floorstanders puts them in the same price range as a C1, that's a formidable challenge.

Re: Bryston Ventures Into Home Speakers

They look like dressed up Axiom's with their plethora of drivers.

Re: Bryston Ventures Into Home Speakers

^^ I believe the article said that Axiom manufactures them for Bryston.

Re: Bryston Ventures Into Home Speakers

Yup...

The speakers were manufactured by Canada’s Axiom Audio, which makes and markets speakers and amplifiers directly to consumers.

Towen,
I thought it was interesting as well, so much so, that I started a thread about it back in October titled.

"Bryston getting into the speaker business." :teasing-neener:

why would anyone buy the same speaker for thousands more? What could be different, crossover? Veneer? I've heard Axiom speakers, I think they are just about a level below my Mini Monitors.

Because it touts a 20 warranty? Nothing like owning sn insurance policy on your gear.

The don't appear to be identical just visually similar. The Brystons have a 3rd bass driver and I don't see a port on them either. The 3rd driver may be passive or they may be rear ported.

I also don't know if the Bryston branded ones will be made of thicker material or higher quality drivers, etc...

I do know those little Model T Mini bookshelves are fairly hefty little buggers weighing in at 39 lbs!!
