Carol Kaye

Who knew one of the bass player on thousands of famous songs was a studio musician and a woman?

Who knew? Like everyone who loved the music from the 1960s recorded with the Wrecking Crew. I discovered Carol when The Monkee's movie, "HEAD", was released on VHS in the 1980s and she was the writer of some of my favorite songs in the movie. Later when I fell in love with Pet Sounds and started doing research, her's was one of the first studio musician interviews I read. She is a legend of the LA sound, not just her bass playing on some of the biggest hits of the era, but her songwriting as well.

There's a documentary on the Wrecking Crew recently released. I haven't seen it yet, but I really want to. Hal Blane was the drummer in that group of studio musicians and I studied from his books when getting started as a drummer.
