Country Music Formula

First, I'm not trying to mock country music here; much rock (especially 50's), pop, and folk music sticks to tried and true formula too; and this is no surprise to anyone who's played in these styles. I don't listen to country anymore; this is probably funnier if I were familiar with the songs. Country is really about the lyrics, unless there's some hot pickin' going on.

kidding aside, i never really thought of it that way, but sort of knew that blake shelton and luke bryans formula is pretty much er... similar to an episode i saw on scorpion.

there are 'formulaic' tones or rhythms that work towards the masses that entice you, or make you want to vote (do they still do this nowadays? how do we get a top 40?) and well, it 'artificially' drives up the market for the artist.

interesting, and definitely enlightening. sad? yes, because at one point, i enjoy country, but now seeing this, it explains why i cant stand listening to 'current' country and always revert back to older 80's or 90's country (i also love other decades, but in rotation)...

On at least two of those songs they were written by the same writing team. I recall kelly Clarkson ran into an issue where one of the songs she co-wrote sounded eerily similar to someone else's song that came out at the same time. The cause? Her collaborator also co-wrote the other singers song. I guess this is what can happen when you don't write your own music. These six country song is kind of catchy, though!

Speaking of country music formulas of a different sort... Lyrically, that is... Be sure to check out the end of a song called "you Never Even Called me by my name" sung by David Allan Coe.

I think the music industry is their own worst enemy!

But their formula makes them a TON of money, find a new(ish) genre or gimmick, promote the shot out of it, find as many artsits as you can that will sell their souls for success, saturate the industry with it, make your ginormous profits, move on the next big thing...
