Yowza.
An acquaintance of mine (incredible musician, has been on the late shows) posted an audio track on Farcebook, it was a bizarre yet stunning recording of Billy Joel's Piano Man. Sorta. The melody was sorta there, but the underlying chords were mangled in the finest fusion manner, and the playing was ferocious:

Then I start reading my new Keyboard magazine, and they describe this new band called Dirty Loops, who've been mangling pop covers and getting lots of EweTube hits, so I listened to a few on EweTube.
It SOUNDED like the same band/vocalist, but the above is a group called "Funky Song Dudes". Don't know yet if they changed their name or not, it would be totally unlikely that TWO bands like this pop up in the same decade...
A Justin Beiber tune never sounded so good!

Their EweTube postings caught the eye/ear of a record company, someone signed them and introduced them to David Foster (!) and he signed them for an album of original material. The guys went back to Sweden (yeah, the bass player is a dood) and spent a long time, played some of the tunes for DF, and he hated it. They tried writing "accessible" material (a la David Foster music) and lost the very thing that made them special. Back to the drawing board, and years later their first album is coming out on the 19th (I've pre-ordered), here's a sample:

Anxious to hear their upcoming album! Love new stuff like this.
