DIY Mic (WM-61A) vs. RS Meter - my measurements

I hear you. And I wasn't talking about banning; that would be a more extreme measure than is warranted here. Not trying to take sides here, just trying to see this not become a personal duel between you two, that's all. You can duke it out all you want by PM. Speaking for myself only, I'm very glad to have you both as members on this forum, and would like to keep it that way.

If you were pointing the mic at 90 degrees incidence to the speaker, then that might explain the discrepancy at the high end. Your mic does not need to be at 90 degrees to the source; point it directly at the speaker. Only mic capsules which are larger need to be at 90 degrees.

The mic was 90 degrees in both measurements. The generic WM-61A calibration file boosts the levels 1dB at 7450Hz, up to 2.9dB at 15Khz, and 2dB at 20khz. The graph i posted seems to reflects this. It has nothing to do with mic position as it was the same exactly in both measurements. I just turned the calibration file on and off.
 
Weird, since I've built maybe 15 of those mics and haven't noticed a large boost at the highest frequencies. In any event, the last octave from 10kHz to 20kHz is probably the least important for listening quality. The mid range and low treble (roughly 200Hz to 10kHz) has far more influence on how we perceive the sound of a speaker.
