I agree. Before my first ever GTG, I always just calibrated my sub by ear. After hearing Dent's setup and talking with him and JimE, I went back and recalibrated my sub to the same level as my mains. I found I was running my sub anywhere from 6-10dBs hotter than the mains before using my SPL meter to calibrate.
At first, I didn't like the sub at the same level as the other speakers. The bass sounded anemic at best, but after about 2 weeks, I got used to it. I went back to the old setting to see if I would still prefer it that way, but I couldn't stand how bloated and boomy my sub sounded at those higher levels.
Now it sounds like I have a 2.0 system with a bit more bottom end to it, instead of like a 2.1 system.
