Guitar amplifier..what to look for?

My son got an electric guitar and amp from his uncle for his birthday (uncle got them free from some guy). The amp is a Roland Super Cube 40. It seems to have a lot of distortion when turning some of the knobs (if you hit the sweet spot you are ok). Question is "can these things be taken apart and cleaned somehow? Is it worth it? If we were looking for another used amp, what are we looking for??

PS: New board looks good!! Nice job!!

That's a good amp. I recommend cleaning the potentiometers. Any tech can do it, or you can buy a can of Caig Deoxit and do it yourself. All you need to do is disassemble the amp enough to get the little dispensing straw on the can of Deoxit into the little gaps in the metal back of the potentiometers. Squirt a tiny amount of the cleaner into the pot and turn the knob back and forth several times. Repeat a few more times, let dry a bit, and test it. You may need to repeat the cleaning process a few times as the gunk in the pot that you washed away can sometimes fall back onto the electrode area.
