It's Zing's Turn

I can't keep time like Flint.

I can't sing like No-L.

I don't do Classical like Pauly.

What I do, however, is write my own music. The following videos are all original compositions. Well, snippets of original compositions anyway.

This first video is just an ad-lib intro to warm up then two verses and the chorus of a song called "3 Years To The Day" which is a garden variety love ballad, written about 14 years ago though the performance was just recorded last night. Please keep in mind this is not a solo or lead performance but rather the music that accompanies lyrics so it's kind of bland and boring without someone singing and I decided not to bore you for four minutes.

In case that did bore you, here is something a bit more upbeat. This video is of two new songs that I'm currently working on. The first half is a melody-driven Pop tune and the second half is more of a funky tune (which I have no business trying to write because it's beyond my abilities). They're both at the same tempo so, as I finished the first, I just ad libbed my way into the second.

Those both were very good Zing! I like the funk sound of the second half of the second video, and your love song has a really good melody to it!

Cool!

I'm constantly surprised by the amount of talent that exists in this forum. I liked the second one as well!

Very, very nice, Zing! I like them both, you've definitely got a talent for composition. I admire that a lot.

Yeeeaaaahhhhhh!!!!! THAT'S MY ZING!!!

(anyone else notice the gorgeous Robert Graham shirt he wore for the occasion?)

Thanks for the kind words, lady and gents.

I didn't wear it for the occasion, that was simply the shirt I chose to wear yesterday. Had I dressed for the occasion, I would've taken cues from Pauly and wore a John Deere sweatshirt and a Stihl hat. :laughing-rolling:

I'm simply blown away.

Amazing.

I know I keep saying this but I'm super-jealous of your talent.

Yeah but then you woulda had to play either classical music or country.

LOL Well, I do have some pretty mean orchestral and pedal stihl geetar sounds on my synth. (Get it? Pedal stihl?) I crack myself up. Thank you. Thank you very much. I'm here all week.

What I do, however, is ...
"It was a very popular tune in its day... I wrote it."

You and I had a discussion about funk at Bat's last summer; brother, you've got it! :handgestures-thumbup:

Yep, and that little piece is the result. I came up with it a few months after the GTG. I have another version of that, played on the synth and using a custom layered Clav sound. I actually prefer the piano version.

Holy Crap Zing, you got some serious chops too. I really liked the first one, and personally thought it stood very well on it's own.

Excellent job my friend. I want to develop my skills on the bass until I gots me some serious funk.

Thanks, Randy. I actually have that song song recorded with vocals (from a 4-track cassette) which No-L has heard. As soon as I can figure out how to transfer it to a digital file, I'll be glad to share it.

I liked all three. Zing, to compose any kind of music is not that easy. Thats one more step-up from just being able to play/read music.
Proud of you my friend.
