You guys are gonna love this. I found a Klipsch subwoofer at Costco for $189.99. I was able to listen to it to me it sounded great of course the subwoofer I have now I bought back in 1994 maybe 95.What I’m asking is if I am an idiot for thinking about purchasing it?

You're not just buying a speaker - you're buying a piece of American audio history. At least that’s what it said. :drunk:

Hell at that price you could buy it just to try it out, and not be out much if it doesn't work in your space. Is it gonna compete with $500+ subs from a specialist company like PSA? Dunno, but it'd be a fun experiment in any case. ;)

Throw the Heritage stuff on sale for 50% off and see how fast I throw my credit card at a pair of La Scala's.
Hummm, did you read my post? True it is a Klipsch woofer, but I don’t believe it is a La
Scala, then again I could be wrong.

This is the specs on my speakers - what does it mean?

Bass Alignment
Sealed Mid-Range Enclosure. Dual Chamber with Differential Tuning (HiVe II Technology)

Crossover Frequency
2.7 KHz

Bass Crossover Frequency
200 Hz

Crossovers are used to separate an incoming musical signal into 1 or more outputs. They offer a way to “cut off” certain sound ranges to send the best range to each type of speaker

I understand that - what I don't understand is according to the speakers specs should I set the crossover to 200hz or in my case 150hz since that is the max on my sub?

The 200 Hz spec listed is when, I assume, the second bass driver becomes active - it's a crossover value.

The speaker is rated as having a frequency response of 28 Hz - 45 KHz so a good rule of thumb is to set your subwoofer's crossover to twice the lowest frequency, so in this case 56 Hz. If setting in an AVR, round up to 60 Hz and set your subwoofer to 150 Hz so it doesn't interfere with the AVR's setting.

I’m running a pre-pro so I will try the 56 Hz and see how that works. Thank you so much I appreciate it

Like he said... i'd assume you have a 3 way system. Each individual driver is going to emit only a certain range of sound. A graph would look like this:

And what you should do is to set the cross over on the sub to the max/highest value and let your receiver handle the crossover for the low end. Typically this is 80 hz, even if your main speakers could go lower.

Well my new $190 woofer isn’t happening for a while. My wife explained to me that we need new carpet in the bedroom and the sub money will go towards that.

Just to explain to you so there is no misunderstanding, I am King of my Domain!! Me, King of Domain. However, I am a kind King and as such I am going to donate the subwoofer money as meager as it is, to the carpet fund.

Long Live the King of the Domain.
