I wanted to post this elsewhere on another forum...but thats another issue.
Anyway, I never noticed any high temps from my Sony Brava LCD until I got my Oppo BDP-80 BR machine. After watching a 2 hr movie....this set puts out some heat. Not hot to the touch but you can walk by & feel the heat. 1080P must take alot of work for those chips etc on the inside.....
 
If the Bravia's native resolution is 1080p, it would seem to me the display would generate more heat up converting a 720p or 1080i signal. Is the Oppo responsible for scaling or is the display? If the Oppo is scaling, the Bravia will see the signal as its native resolution and display as is what's received from the Oppo.

my panny plasma throws off some heat, but i've never noticed any from my new set (led-lcd).

EDIT:

So my Samsung has been on for about 4 hours now and the back for the display is slightly warm to the touch, the actual screen is room temp.
