Mark Knopfler - Twenty Solos

Happy Birthday Mark Knopfler. This site has a short overview of his career and then a playlist (on Spotify) of twenty of his most memorable solos (including Telegraph Road, IMNSHO the greatest rock record ever made). Enjoy!

You had me confused here Botch. I started to question my memory - and then resort to wiki.

IMHO Telegraph Road is a terrific song. You called it a "record." Is that an Americanism for "song?" Telegraph Road was the lead song on the Dire Straits Love over Gold album. As far as I can tell it was never released as a single - or "record" as I would have defined it.

Not trying to be a hair-splitting douche (ie. not my usual self.) But when I first read your post I got panicky - thinking I might be missing a Dire Straits' album from my collection. :)

Jeff

ps. It's a hard hard choice, but of all of the Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler albums, I'm heavily leaning towards his Sailing to Philadelphia as best album, with the eponymous Dire Straits a close second.

@JeffMackwood, At the Grammy Awards, song of the year is an award for the songwriter; record of the year is also for a single song but it rewards the performance (artist) and production (producer, engineers, mixers).

That I did not realize. Thank you for the clarification.

Jeff

ps. Botch: pardon me for any impugning of your wisdom. Except when it comes to detailed drawings of The Enterprise! Man I love that pizza cutter... :nyah:

What Chuck said. A "record" can mean "album" but it can also mean the song, the performance, and the recording of such (I usually use the term "album" for that reason, although then you have to ask, is a CD an "album"? Is a download of ten songs?)

And I hope your pizza cutter is sharp enough to cut that "fishtail" off your Enterprise. :gross::gross::gross:
