My Son made State !

Barney

Longhorns, Cowboys, Spurs, & Rangers...love Texas
Last Feb my son went to UIL solo contest and made a I. He qualified to try out for State because he played his solo by memory and graded a I. We went to State which was held in North Austin last Sat for percussion (they had State try outs at 3 different schools in Austin). He made a I !!!! He was the only band member in his High School (there are 220 students in band) that made a I (don't know how many qualified for State but there were 4 other students in percussion that made the try-outs-1 senior, 1 sophmore, & 1 other freshman)
He is just a freshman ! Daddy is proud & my chest is sticking out !
By the way, they have to also play their solo's by memory & the judges are tougher at State. His judge plays percussion in the Austin Symphony and my son said he was old.

Forgot, he played a snare drum. Next year he has to play a different instrument for solo contest.

That is awesome, Barney! Be proud, be very proud.

I luv hearing about positive parenting. :handgestures-thumbup:

Congrats to you and your family for your son's accomplishment...........

Like others said, Be Proud!!!! Be Very Proud!!!

Thanks gang ! His last day of school is next Wed so he hasn't taken his finals but he should have just two in the high 80's (88 or 89) and the rest in the mid 90's. The major classes (math etc) are all AP classes. Some dual credit.

That's great news, clearly he is a very hard working musician! Feed that passion, Barn.

WAY COOL!! Both my stepsons played trombone in marching band, concert band and jazz band. I know you have spent a lot of time supporting this endeavor. He may have the talent but Dad helped him get there.

I'll let him know what ya'll are saying. Again, my chest is sticking out, proud Daddy here. All summer he will be marching in the school's parking lot every day starting in July all day long, they are required to have a camel back & he wears 'em out. Band don't have summers off.
He will be playing tenor drums next year & his back will be getting a work out. Here's a link to what a marching tenor drum set looks like:
