Need to buy a receiver for my son

My son's Marantz has died. It was mine before I upgraded 4 years ago. Any suggestions for a new one? He needs a component for his Wii and an optical for his CD changer. Speakers are pretty efficient (My Infinity Reference towers from the 1990 time). He has an SVS sub (Christmas present a few years back). I guess he needs about three HDMI inputs. Moderate price range would probably be appropriate. Any ideas and where to shop?

Define moderate . . . . preferred price range?

:eek:bscene-drinkingcheers: ~ ~ ~ $ $

I would think 400-700 as a beginning budget. My current Marantz was about 1200 but that was in the early days of the HD sound formats.

I'm also (just hunting right now...not buying) but Marantz is coming out with two new slim-lines....due out real soon:

It seems that Cosco is still selling the Pioneer SC 1522K for $599.99

Here's what Amazon wants for the Pioneer:

Back on Mar 24th BobR posted he picked up a very nice Yamaha RX
AVR for a nice price.

Here's an even better deal:

$383 and free shipping for the RX-V673. This is pretty much the same as my 773 which is now back up to $800.

Just pulled the plug on the Yamaha. I also considered a higher end model from Onkyo at the Accessories4Less site linked earlier in the thread. The Yamaha should fit his needs well and more. Looks like a pretty cool remote control with available apps. The Ipad coonection might appeal to Clint as well. As it turned out the price was about what my Discovercard cash back had accumulated to over the last two years. So that worked out well. Thanks Bob.

I will have the discretion to not mention a Red Sox fan helping out a long-time Yankee fan. :)

Your welcome Muddy. This needs a wifi doohickie to get connected. I think you have to hook-up the smart phone with a USB cord.

The only difference from the 773WS and the 673 is this doohickie.

And I did it for your son, not for a spankmee fan. :laughing-lettersrofl:

Clint is very happy with it. He made his way through all the connection assignments and the setup without much difficulty. This is a much more modern receiver than the Marantz SR4001 or even my SR7002. I told him he could now get two SVS subs (but get asked to leave the neighborhood). In time he will delve into the WIFI capabilities. If he can repair the Siemans electronics on million dollar transporters he can handle this.

Wish to thank everyone for their input and guidance especially Bob R.
