Painting speakers..anyone tried this?

We recently repainted our basement, and 4 surround speakers (hanging on wall ) look terrible according to my wife!! So my options are :

a) paint them the matching colour of the walls (is this tacky) and order new black grill covers
b) paint them black and order new grill covers
c) try to sell them and buy black speakers with dark grey or black grill covers
Room is grey.
Suggestions and opinions are welcome!!
Mike

If you are happy with their performance, why not paint them. As long as the surface is prepped so the paint adheres properly and you don't rush, they should turn out fine.

you can also create er, valances? or a fake 'box' to put them in? you know, like columns of some sort.

its a longshot, but an option nonetheless.

That may create problems with soundwave dispersion pattern. Maybe ok to build a stick frame around it and cover it with same fabric as speaker grill, then remove the speaker grill so that there is only one layer of fabric in front of speaker drivers.

Get that rubber paint so you can peel it off in the future to sell the speakers.

This is my main concern!! Resale value. Obviously once I paint these, if I am unable to get the paint off ,the market, and market value goes way down!! Knowing me, I will do a crap job on them!! I know my wife doesn't really like black speakers but I think they would blend with the walls much better than the current ones!! I think I will explore the used market to get rid of these and buy new ones!!
Mike
PS: They weren't the most expensive speakers in the world anyway so I think buying new is justified... at least that's what I think!!

Plastidip peels right off if you lay it on thick enough, all the layers bond together and create a rubber sheet that's pretty pliable.

this sounds like an awesome idea, i also like the rubber paint thingy too.

I'm surprised nobody has offered the suggestion of getting a new wife. lol Sorry Mike, I couldn't resist and don't have much to add that hasn't already been suggested. Good luck, and a happy wife equals a happy life. :happy-smileygiantred:

I think, yes.

Black plastidip, or all-new speakers :banana-dance: would be the way to go, methinks.

Yeah, new speakers would probably be cheaper than a new wife. lol

Just ordered the same Axiom M3 speakers in Charcoal Smoke with a Charcoal grille. I was satisfied with the sound before so why mess around. They are just for surrounds. They have the keyhole in the back and I KNOW they will fit the bracket I already have mounted!! My wife didn't want black speakers on the wall, so guess what honey, these aren't black!! :D

Congrats Mike on the new speaks. And if the wife gives you a hard time, just tell she forced you into buying them! :happy-smileygiantred:
