Philips now out of the TV biz

If I recall correctly they used to make a pretty good TV.

It is a bit sad to see the decline of available quality TV displays, what are we down to now - Samsung, Panasonic for the "higher" end and a bunch of mid to low quality options.

Phillips was more of a low-end display manufacturer. I mostly saw their stuff in stores like Walmart. I do agree that pickins are getting thin on the upper end. The last three displays I bought were all Samsung and I suspect the next three will be too.

This is the exact same thing that happened in the audio business ten years ago. The majority of people interested in good value and high performance were not driving the market. Instead, the lowest possible price players won the business and all the manufacturers who thought the market would appreciate higher quality lost market share and eventually had to get out of the market altogether.

There will always be a niche market for high quality & good value audio and video gear. The problem with niche markets is a complete lack of any real choice.

I seem to mainly buy Samsung, Onkyo, Marantz, Sony and Logitech for electronics.

Philips joins RCA & Zenith. I didn't consider any of those brands "low end" back in their days.

Philips has BEEN with RCA and Zenith for quite some time.
I didn't know that RCA & Zenith was part of Funai ? I did think that Philips stuff was made by Funai (so is some Dell, Denon, Toshiba gear).

RCA displays is On Corp---had a display in the 2011 CES :

RCA got all broken up...sold off to everyone
Zenith was bought by LG...another large Korean Co.
