A few weeks ago I downloaded a pretty cool app from my Samsung tablet (Android O/S). I started looking for one because the last link in my multi-media distribution puzzle was playing my lossless audio (now encoded in FLAC) in my theater. I don't want to have to add any more hardware, such as a Sonos system (though these are REALLY! cool), and my PC will play the audio. I simply needed a way to control the PC.
I found an app called "Media Player Remote" and downloaded it for $0.99. I also had to download a small utility to run on the PC. When I did this I discovered that the app worked, but it was based on playlists. I don't really do playlists. What I really wanted was an app which would allow me to browse my music just as I can using other hardware (browse by artist/album/song usually). I contacted the developer of the app and explained that the way the app functioned combined w/ my library of ~4,000 songs, this wouldn't really work out so I would possibly request a refund (they had a 24 hour guarantee).
I have been communicating w/ David, the developer ever since and the app has been updated to include browsing by album, artist, or genre (though once in you're in one category you then enter a list of songs in that category). You can also now search as well. Furthermore, the app controls Windows Media Player so it's not limited to just music but you can also play videos and browse photos as well.
Why is this so cool to me? I can now sit in my theater and browse my music on my tablet and play it through my system for a total cost of $1. I can't wait until David releases the true "tablet" version of the app so it can make better use of the extra screen real estate (he purchased a Sammy tablet about the same time I got the app). David says it's coming fairly soon.
