I think it has more to do with wanting to sell tickets and DVDs in China. The Chinese government wouldn't allow it to be shown if it cast their country in a bad light.
 
^ But then, the movie has to be good to generate good return. In this particular case... they've got it wrong right from the beginning. :( Don't they call that DOA?
