The old 40" Sont CRT has finally seen better days. Mom called this AM saying it wouldn't power up. Went over and took a look and there was a problem. Seems this issue is well documented. Would cost 300-500 to fix (mostly labor). We had put $500 into it about 4 years ago.

After going over the options Mom decided that rather than put money into a 10 yo TV she wants "one of those long TVs". So time to do some shopping.

Probably a plasma in the 50" range and not over $1000 if possible

Well, I guess the silver lining is this is a pretty good time of year to be needing a new TV. Good luck!

Man those old tube XBR's weigh a ton. I remember mine was just over 200lbs.

Don't hurt yourself getting that thing out of there.

It weighs in at about 350 lbs.

The biggest problem is what to do with that beast.

getting it out of the house is the hard part, to get it somewhere else on a dolly (?) should be easier.

does bb have a 'recycle' option?

lucky and congrats mzpro!

That's not hard at all these days :text-link:

Thanks Bats.

I had A 51" Sammy picked out on Amzn but the link you provided had essentially the same set for $150 less. And when it showed my local BB had it in store I oedered it. Will pick up tomorrow. Here is the one.

Hey Jeff,

Congrats.......

It looks like you bought the same series as my new Samsung 59. We are loving it!

Best of luck with your new display!

Keith

I moved a huge CRT once. Not fun.

I hope mom enjoys your hard work.

The beast is still in the dining room. We used those furniture sliders and they really do work. Was able to push it into the dining room with just one hand and walking.

My brother is pretty sure he knows someone that will actually pay a couple bucks for it. I'll be happy if they just come and haul it away.
