Following Rory Block's previous "Mentor Series" releases is her latest - "I Belong To The Band: A Tribute To Rev. Gary Davis", the legendary blues/folk/gospel pioneer. In 1964, at the age of 15, Rory would make the long subway trip to Davis' home to take guitar lessons along with her friend Stefan Grossman. Rory Block is THE most acclaimed female acoustic blues artist. Rory actively tours internationally and each new release is a high profile occasion in the blues community. She is nominated for two 2012 Blues Music Awards.

Have you gotten it yet? I'm very interested to hear your opinion of it compared to her others!

heeman, for a good introcution combo of Rory's overall sound and style I'd recommend two . . . . .

'Shake 'Em On Down' ,, 2011
and 'From The Dust' ,, 2005

If you dig 'acoustic blues' with the long-time traditional style, Rory will make you fan real quick.

:handgestures-thumbup: , , , hope you like 'em, man

No disappointment here at all. Rory recorded 12 gospel songsl (all at least
min. long) in her usual unique and soulful style.
Good stuff! She delivers, vocally and as a musician, some good delta music.

Excellent! I've ordered this and a few others in this tribute series that I don't already have (Son House, Robert Johnson).

Goin' way back in Blues history with the Robert Johnson.
Rory does a good job with these old tunes.

[I have all his origianl reocrodings, but seldom listen to them.]
nice to have them available, though

Yeah, I have that set of original (30's) R.J. recordings, need to go back and listen again now that I've had more time to experience and absorb blues music. You're right, they're not exactly for casual/easy listening.
