Smooth Hard Floors VS. Carpet

I also recommend looking into acoustic diffusor ceiling tiles in certain areas, about 30% of the ceiling. So, when choosing a ceiling tile for the majority of the area, consider how some diffusors would look with them.
 
So I would need to go with OC 705 Tiles because the OC 703 will absorb Mid Range and Treble.

There are a ton of manufacturers with lower cost diffuser ceiling tiles. I just want feeling up to seeking them out.

I did hardwood with natural (wool) rug in the HT and REALLY liked how it turned out. When I do my next one, I will do it the same way.

As for the ceiling, if you do a drop ceiling you could use the OC703/5 panels for a row (or two) where the reflection point will be and I would think that would work very well and save a little bit of head room.
