Sonos control bricked if you don't accept new firmware privacy policy

Sonos updated their private policy to allow the company to gather much more info from you and your use of their devices, even how you use Alexa to control them. Some people refused, which stopped their ability to install firmware updates. Fine. Then the apps on their phones were updated either manually or using the automatic updates feature of their phones, and the new app version won't work with the old firmware. So, either they have to accept the new privacy policy, or they cannot use their phones to control or configure their Sonos devices.

Yeah ... I’m not one to fret about privacy concerns with stuff like this. I’m also not opposed to withholding NEW functionality based on the company having access to some data like that. But I don’t think it’s cool to brick equipment that worked fine before.
Does the user have option to revert to a less capable and no-longer supported version of app?

Edit

Fake news?
From the article ...

Sonos: “We did not intend for these owners to get in this state, and Sonos has a solution for this problem.”

Chances are very good Sonos was caught off guard with this. They probably never considered what would happen if people refused the new privacy policy.

Yeah
I recall this being a concern reported by the tech news way back in August when the TOS were updated. As the article said this appears to be a glitch. But a glitch that wasn’t all that hard to see coming, apparently.
